Why DIY Window Tinting is a Mistake

Updated: Mar 20, 2018

The more you do anything, the better you will be at it - especially window film. Every now and then we get a call or email from someone interested in purchasing window film from us so that they can install it themselves. Aside from the fact that this voids your warranty from 3M and gives you no guarantee for the installation or the film, this is also incredibly difficult to do.

Installing window film is not easy. How-to videos on YouTube don’t let you see the 1000’s of hours put into developing their window tinting skill. Within the industry, one of the biggest (if not the biggest) challenges we face is finding quality installers. They are few and far between. It takes several months for us to train someone with no experience to be able to tint on their own. Hours on hours of window cleaning, stripping, laying, and squeegeeing are not simply recommended; they are entirely necessary.

So, for the highly ambitious DIY’er, spend your weekend on something else. Not only are you voiding your warranty and guarantee from 3M, you are more than likely going to end up right back where you were before you decided to take a go at it yourself. Save yourself the time and stress and give us a call. We’ll make sure your windows turn out to be everything you expected and more.
